HAPPY DECEMBER 2018 GATHERING AND MERRY CHRISTMAS
A crowd of 70, lovely decorations and delicious soup, chili, cornbread, salad and dessert dishes made for a very enjoyable evening at Greensboro FUMC on Carey Station Rd. on December 14, 2018. The rain outside couldn’t dampen the Emmaus spirit within the group of Community members present. Susie Pressley and Pat Dickey announced the next fundraiser to be held at Greensboro FUMC on January 18, 2019. A beautiful flower arrangement was presented to Shirley Wiley for her service to the Community. Shirley also gave the 4th Day Talk, and Rev. Hugh Hendrickson gave the Clergy Response and served Holy Communion, assisted by Butch Thompson, Ann Maddox and Shirley Wiley. Fourth Day led the group in favorite Christmas songs and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you have never been to an ORBEC Gathering you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Join us next time and enjoy the praise and worship, the food and the loving fellowship of an Emmaus Gathering.
APRIL 2018 GATHERING
THE FIRST GATHERING TO FOLLOW ORBEC WALKS #17 & #18 WAS HELD AT THE BRIARPATCH, THE EATONTON FARM OWNED BY ORBEC MEMBERS, MIKE AND CATHY RAINEY. THE GENEROSITY OF THE RAINEYS IN THEIR STEWARDSHIP OF THE FARM IS A BLESSING TO THE COMMUNITY.
THE ORBEC BOARD OF SERVANTS PROVIDED HOT DOGS AND THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE BROUGHT SIDE DISHES AND DESSERTS TO COMPLETE THE HUGE MEAL. THERE WERE SOME 200 PEOPLE, INCLUDING SEVERAL GUESTS.
THE FESTIVITIES TOOK PLACE IN THE BARN, A LARGE WELL-LIT AND DECORATED AREA WITH TABLES AND CHAIRS SCATTERED ABOUT. THE MEAL BEGAN AT 6:00 PM, AND WAS FOLLOWED BY MUSIC PROVIDED BY “FOURTH DAY”, THE ORBEC BAND AND SINGERS. THE SONGS WERE INSPIRATIONAL AND FULL OF PRAISE, AND THE MEMBERSHIP SANG OUT WITH JOY.
IN LIEU OF A PREPLANNED FOURTH DAY TALK, DIANE BASSETT, COMMUNITY GATHERING SERVANT, ASKED THE NEW MEMBERS FROM WALKS 17 & 18 TO USE THE OPEN MIC TO SHARE THEIR 4TH DAY EXPERIENCE WITH THE GROUP. FOUR MEMBERS SHARED WITH THE GROUP, AND MIKE RAINEY GAVE A MOVING TESTIMONY.
REV. BILL KING, ASSISTED BY REV. MIKE MORGAN, SERVED HOLY COMMUNION.
THE GATHERING FOLLOWING A WALK IS ALWAYS SPECIAL, AND THIS ONE DIDN’T DISAPPOINT.
